“Unconventional Lessons Learned: A Survey Of Applied Horn Instructors”
Dissertation completed in 2022. Explores how applied lessons are conventionally taught, some of the challenges teachers faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as potential ramifications from the social unrest that coincided with the pandemic. I deduce what methods and resources worked well for teachers and how these resources can continue to be applied in their curriculum.

We start out by establishing a positive approach to music - and practicing.
Playing a musical instrument shouldn’t be considered “work.” We practice and play our instrument just like an athlete practices and plays their sport. When we put in the effort, playing music is engaging, rewarding, and fun! I encourage my students to love their instrument, their music-making, and learning, no matter their age or background. I set clear goals for each lesson and expect my students to try their best to meet them
